As part of Australian Wool Innovation’s commitment to bringing new ideas and innovations to the manufacturer, retailer and ultimately the consumer, an exclusive booklet of colour trends and Merino knitwear product development has been compiled as a summary of new direction for Australian Merino Wool. Both the colour trends and product development reflect the new direction for Autumn Winter 2008/09 towards a more environmentally friendly ethos which Australian Merino wool is the ideal product for being natural, sustainable and fully biodegradable. Each colour trend reflects the key influences for the season broken into eight trends highlighting the naturally beautiful properties of wool. With these trends as a global direction AWI has focussed them into three key product innovation platforms: Merino Care, Merino Soft and Merino Visual.
Consumer insightsAWI Seminars at SPIN EXPO - Pascal Senkoff, AWI General Manager Apparel Product Marketing
As part of its commitment to continually stay at the forefront of worldwide fashion trends and changing consumer habits, AWI has committed to an ongoing program of global consumer research and trend forecasting. AWI commissioned a major global study that focused on consumer behaviour within the fashion industry, of people between 16 and 64 years, and spanning 10 key international markets. In addition to this study, AWI is continuing to identify global macro consumer trends and their implications for fashion and fibre marketing so that we can add significant insight to our partners as well as continue to create fabrics that will satisfy consumer wants and needs. In late 2006, AWI conducted an intensive survey with over 22 000 people from across the globe. Merino wool is currently perceived as a premium, luxurious fibre by most. The survey results provide insight in where consumers see Merino going in the future – follow the evolution of wool and better your business with Merino.
